Sinkhole Spotted in Cebu Philippines; Forces 30 Families to Evacuate

On Saturday morning, Cebu provincial officials were surprised because  a sinkhole  was spotted  in Sitio Dapdap, Barangay Langub, Kinatarkan Island, Sta. Fe town in Batayan, Cebu Philippines.
According to Mayor Jose Esgana, the Barangay officials in the said area are now monitoring the mysterious 40-feet sink hole. The sink hole has 3 feet deep, but it is said that it grew wider after a resident has reported it.

Residents are forced to evacuate to a safe  location, 300 to 500 meters away from the sinkhole. There are thirty families have been evacuated away from the site yet the Mayor said that the area is now secured by the Brgy. Tanod.

The appearance of the sinkhole was reported by a resident on Friday night to the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) and the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region 7 for proper action.
The Provincial Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) of “Cebu Philippines” has also sent a team to Sta. Fe to assist the affected families.

MGB Regional Director Loreto Alburo told the mayor the occurrence was likely a sinkhole because  the area in sitio Dapdap is made of limestone and has a cave.

While waiting for the experts to check the area, Alburo suggested that a fence or barrier be  set up around the sinkhole with signs warning residents of any possible threat.  This is not the only "sinkhole" discovered in PHILIPPINES but there are still mysterious sinkhole found in other local place.
